ABSTRACT

Since 1984, increased attention has been given to the use of computers in education. During 1986, the last of the eleven states (Lander) of the Federal Republic of Germany programmatically declared the introduction of a "Basic Education in Information Technology" (Infornnationstechnische Grundbildung) into Secondary Education for all children, starting at grade level 8 (age 14). Materials are being developed and teachers are being trained. Although these programmes cannot be considered research, some of them are systematically evaluated in order to identify an adequate format introducing the new requirements. These are interactive, in so far as they intend the direct use of new technologies as part of an informative, qualifying and reflective introduction (for an overview see BOSLER, 1986).
