ABSTRACT

THE MAINFRAME AND NETWORK ENVIRONMENTS have the ability to distribute data to the locations closest to the origin. The advantages of distributed data, which provides for the database to be present in multiple locations, are in the ease of updates and user frequency of access. Software, such as Lotus Notes, actually replicates the databases to many locations and synchro nizes the information. In case of a catastrophic disaster in one location, the information can be easily recovered from another location, reducing downtime.
