ABSTRACT

The bow operation requires selection o f an active string, pressure o f bow against a string, and reciprocation o f a bow. A bow must make contact wi th any desired one from among four strings, and move rectilinearly wi th appropriate pres sure against a string. For these three movements, individual mechanisms and ac tuators are provided. The hand holding the bow is only linearly reciprocated on a fixed track. Then, the body o f a viol in is rotated around its long axis such that a desired string appears on the operating track o f the bow. The reciprocation o f the bow is performed by the arm consisting o f a pantograph mechanism. The holder o f the bow has a mechanism to control the pressure o f the bow.
