ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we are going to discuss the transducers (sensors/actuators) most commonly used in mechatronics, wi th the main emphasis on sensors, espe cially position/displacement sensors. In the following sections, classification o f sensors and actuators w i l l be introduced, followed by the basic concepts and common terms used in sensors and actuators. Then the fundamental principles o f several major categories o f transducers w i l l be presented. In particular, two o f the most commonly used position/displacement sensors, L V D T s and PSDs, w i l l be discussed in detail.
