ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with organizational effectiveness and development at different stages of growth and the resulting implications for consultants. It presents a holistic framework based on insights derived from action research conducted for more than 17 years in organizations ranging from small entrepreneurships to Fortune 500 firms. That research consisted primarily of management and organizational development interventions as an advisor and consultant, and included attempts to step back from the observations of organizational behavior to generalize about the common determinants of effectiveness at various points in an organization’s life cycle.
