ABSTRACT
Reactive oxygen species (superoxide anion, hydrogen peroxide, and hydroxyl radical) can lead to the damage of almost all cell components (DNA, lipid membranes, and proteins) and have been implicated as causative agents in many degenerative diseases. The bacterial responses to superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide have proven to be ideal models for studying how cells sense and adapt to oxidative stress.
