ABSTRACT
Cytogenetics is the study of chromosomes. What are chromosomes? A sim plified definition of a chromosome is that it is an organelle composed of DNA and proteins. The structure of the chromosome seems to remain rather constant from organism to organism. The most widely accepted chromosome structure is shown in Fig. 1 .
