ThediversityoftheFc-yRismanifestedfurtherintermsofligandspecificity,ligandaffinity, andcelldistribution.Howthisheterogeneityisreflectedinthefunctionaldiversityisunclear atthepresenttime.Itistobeexpectedthateachoftheclassesofreceptorswiththeirvarious subtypeswouldhavespecificreceptorfunction.Inthisway,thethreereceptortypesfoundon macrophageswouldbeemployedforspecificpurposesandnotmerelyserveasback-upsystems foroneanother.However,italsohasbeenproposedthatthereceptorsdonotperformspecific tasksbutratherfunctionalityisdeterminedbythecelltypecarryingthereceptor(55).
