ABSTRACT

The reduction of BC3N with Li+C10H8_/l,2,3,4-tetrahydro-9-fluorenone (THF) solution has yielded a lithium-intercalated compound [15]. Almost no change in color was observed. The x-ray diffraction indicated that the compound had a gallery height of 0.43 nm, which might indicate a first-stage salt. The gallery expansion of 0.07 nm (0.43 — 0.36 nm) is, however, larger than anticipated, since in the case of graphite it is only 0.036 nm (0.371 — 0.335 nm). Oxidizers such as (S03F)2 have not been used with BC3N but should bring about inter calation if the material is highly graphitic.
