ABSTRACT
SUMMARY This chapter briefly reviews the major factors governing the fatigue strength of welded details. Case studies which illustrate some of the causes of fatigue cracking being experienced in highway bridge structures and the methods used to repair and retrofit the welded details are examined. Examples of severe corrosion and the inability to detect corrosion cell activity are summarized.
