ABSTRACT

Structures sustain various types of external forces. Among them, forces induced by loads such as dead load, live load and snow load remain relatively constant with respect to time and are called static forces. On the other hand, those induced by earthquakes, wind, or explosion fluctuate rapidly with time and are called dynamic forces. In this section, problems of structures subjected to dynamic forces are discussed. The effects of earthquake loading on the behaviour of building structures will be emphasized.
