ABSTRACT

Tom Boyle and John Cook The issue of the effective reuse of learning resources has become the focus of considerable interest. There are major economic and pedagogical reasons for capturing quality resources in a form that facilitates reuse in a variety of settings. The issue of reuse is closely entwined with the concept of 'learning objects,' which is used to refer to the basic reusable unit of learning. There has been a major international effort in developing standards to facilitate the reuse of resources. Duval et al (2003) argue that this work should increase the effectiveness of learning by making content more readily available, reducing the cost of producing quality content and allowing content to be more easily shared.
