ABSTRACT
Glycobiology is the study of the biology of saccharides (glycan). Glycoconjugates or glycan can be linked with other types of biological molecules. Glycoproteins and glycolipids are abundant in mammalian cells (Rademacher et al. 1988; Dwek 1996; Bertozzi and Kiessling 2001; Mengerink and Vacquier 2001; Lütteke et al. 2006; DeMarco and Woods 2008; Taylor and Drickamer 2011). Marine glycobiology is limited. However, recent developments on marine glycobiology, particularly on glycoconjugates, have resulted in several biological and biomedical applications. The research on this area is increasing (Caldwell and Pagett 2010).
