ABSTRACT

A steel blade pushes the refuse material from the hopper area into the rear of the truck body. The problem for Freight Transit Trash Hauling Services is that their customers put out multiple non-standard containers with multiple different types of recyclables that are not compatible with the mechanized arm. The recycling truck in the incident is a Trash Compactor X360, also known as the TC X360, designed and manufactured by Weber Systems of Little Rock, Arkansas. Weber Systems has been in the refuse truck manufacturing business for nearly a half a century, starting out as a small mom-and-pop shop and expanding into an international distributor of all things related to refuse collection. It would have been reasonable for Weber Systems to provide an effective warning system, including readily visible, complete, and practical on-product warnings, regarding the hazard associated with entering the hopper to clear a jam with their TC X360 recycling truck.
