ABSTRACT

The sorghum plant is a tropically adapted C4 crop that is photoperiod sensitive (Sage et al., 1999). However, the sorghums that are grown for grain in temperate and subtropical regions have been converted into photoperiod-insensitive plants. For high-input farming, hybrids (and their parental breeding lines) also have dwarf genes that allow for optimum combine harvest height and grain-stover ratios.
