ABSTRACT

Mango production in Japan has increased from 440 tons in 1992 to 3327 tons in 2013. The entire mango crop is grown in greenhouses because of low winter temperatures and rainfall during the flowering period. Most production takes place in the southern part of Japan, including Okinawa, Kyushu and Honshu Islands. However, some growers have begun to cultivate mangoes in Hokkaido Island, the most northern part of Japan, where winter temperatures fall to –20°C.
