Selection in crop plants is mainly based on performance criteria and product quality. For coffee plants, this selection is essentially based on the production level of coffee beans and on the organoleptic quality of the coffee drink. Many suggestions have been proposed to improve these two criteria, either by modifying cultivation techniques, for example, by input supply, cultivation in full sun or under shade, and plant treatment against biological aggressors or by practicing inter-or intraspecific crosses. However, these improvements only address in part the problems of climate change and development of a sustainable farming.
