ABSTRACT

It is important to survey and monitor weed populations in agricultural fields because a farmer needs to know what weed species and communities occur and where in their field to make appropriate and effective weed management decisions for the current growing season and for future crop production. A weed map is most useful when it is a complete, accurate and unbiased assessment of the weed populations for a given field, farm or region. It is not easy to achieve because of the time and labour required, the complexity of the scouting information, the ability to identify each species, the spatial and temporal variation in weed density and distribution and the scale at which the information is collected.
