ABSTRACT

Hemangiomas are found in 9-13% of white non-Hispanics, 1.4% of black, and 0.8% of Asian infants, with a female to male ratio of 3:15. The incidence increases significantly with preterm births weighing less than 1200 g (22-30%). In fact, it is estimated that hemangioma risk rises by about 40% per 500 g decrease in birth weight5. Maternal factors, such as advanced maternal age and preeclampsia, have also been found to increase the incidence of infantile hemangiomas5.
