ABSTRACT

The ultimate aim of any sperm selection method is to provide the best-quality sperm possible so as to maximize the outcome of whatever assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures are to be undertaken. For articial insemination and in vitro fertilization (IVF), the main requirement is the provision of a sample enriched with progressive motile sperm, because these techniques are dependent on the ability of sperm to nd and penetrate the oocyte by themselves. To this end, several preparatory techniques have been developed, the most used of which have been detailed in the preceding chapter.
