ABSTRACT

Theoretically, it is open to the defendant to challenge the way in which the jury panel was selected; this is known as challenging the array. In practice, this never occurs. The only basis for objecting to the entire jury panel would be that the population of the area served by that particular Crown Court would be hostile to the defendant because of the notoriety of the case. In such a case, the appropriate course of action would be to try to secure a change in the location of the trial. As to the ways for achieving this, see Chapter 7, 7.13.
