ABSTRACT
A Practice Direction (1970) says that a further 10 minutes should be allowed, to allow the jury to settle down in the jury room and elect a foreman.
If a majority verdict were to be accepted before two hours have elapsed from the time the jury left the court room to begin its deliberations, that verdict would be a nullity.
