ABSTRACT
In this first chapter, we examine how a defendant is brought before the criminal courts. We consider what happens when a suspect is taken to a police station for questioning. We see how the decision to prosecute a suspect is taken. We also look at the structure and personnel of the criminal courts, and at the advocates who appear before them.
