ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will deal with trials in the magistrates’ courts and the Crown Court, together with appeals and how miscarriages of justice are dealt with by the Criminal Cases Review Commission. We will also deal with the role of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and, in outline, that of the police in investigating offences. Sentencing of offenders will be dealt with in Chapter 9.
