ABSTRACT

Once it was common to talk of humans possessing a soul; the positivist approach reduced this to a matter of mental hygiene. In this chapter we shall look at three influential theories which focused on the psychology of the subject, and his/her learning ability; those of Bowlby, Eysenck, and Sutherland. Each theory concentrates on what may be seen as different sites in a chain of processes; the journey through the pathways of everyday life. The chapter concludes by looking at the notion of the psychopath.
