ABSTRACT

Town planning was first introduced in the Housing and Town Planning etc Act 1909. This was strengthened in the Town and Country Planning Acts 1932 and 1943. However, the Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) 1947 established the modern system of planning today. Current legislation is contained in the TCPA 1990 (as amended), the Planning and Compensation Act 1991, the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and the Planning (Hazardous Substances) Act 1990.3
