ABSTRACT
This Directive complements Directive 76/464 by controlling the discharge of dangerous substances into underground water sources. It aims to prevent pollution by List I (black list) substances and reduce pollution by those in List II (grey list). To this end, direct discharges of List I and all discharges of List II substances are to be made subject to prior investigation and, where appropriate, consent. Sewerage and radioactive discharges are excluded from the ambit of the legislation.38
