ABSTRACT

It is sadly the case that there are few, if any, circumstances in the UK where sufficient funding is available to enable occupational therapists to provide the comprehensive service suggested by the definition given at the start of this chapter. As will be seen by the brief descriptions below, occupational therapists employed within the statutory sectors are limited in their role by resource constraints, the legislative mandates of their various employers and the specialist focus of their particular work situation. Nevertheless, work situations and local practice vary widely, so the following descriptions should be taken only as a general guide.
