MARGINAL NOTES? GENDER AND THE CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENT
In spite of all the employment legislation of the last 30 years and the still central emphasis on collective bargaining and informal sources of employment rights, it is the contract of employment which remains the legal foundation of the employment relationship. As such, it operates as a gateway to many of the statutory employment rights. This chapter will examine the legal nature of the contract of employment as it has been partly constructed by gender and as it has continued to develop.
