ABSTRACT

The Convention on the Contract of International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR) has been adopted by European countries including the United Kingdom.266

The Convention applies to the contracts of carriage of goods by road where the place for taking the goods and the place for their delivery are in different countries.267 The Convention only has force of law so far as it relates to the rights and liabilities of ‘persons concerned’. These are the sender, the consignee, any carrier party to the contract and any person for whom the carrier is responsible.268
