ABSTRACT
All patients attending an A and E department should have a proper history taken followed by a careful examination of the relevant part of the body. The majority of patients will also be investigated to some degree. These investigations are usually basic ones, as an A and E department is not the place to initiate complex invasive procedures or those which involve the collection of specimens over an extended period.
