ABSTRACT

The following example of integrated physiological control is greatly simplified. In man, the vital systems of central nervous system (CNS), cardiovascular system (CVS) and respiratory system (RS), considered in Chapter 3, are essential to life and failure of one system leads to death. The vital signs which may be used to monitor the function of the vital systems are consciousness, pulse beat and respiration. The vital systems are interdependent but are closely co-ordinated to maintain a stable physiological environment.
