ABSTRACT

Facial paralysis, otherwise known as facial palsy, is one of the commonest of neurological disorders. There are a number of causes, but it is important to make a distinction between two different kinds of facial paralysis: those resulting from injury to the nerve itself (known for technical reasons as lower motor neurone palsies); and those resulting from injury to the central nervous system (eg after a stroke) which are termed upper motor-neurone palsies.
