ABSTRACT

Diagnosis is by serological tests performed on blood (the antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-ANCA-test) and by examination of biopsy material from the nose, the kidney and possibly the lung.

Untreated, the outlook is poor with death from renal failure in a matter of months. Modern treatment with steroids and the cytotoxic drug cyclophosphamide is life-saving. Remission may follow treatment.
