ABSTRACT

In order fully to appreciate the pace of change and development of environmental law in the UK, we need to consider the role played by European Community (EC) environmental law. The impact of EC environmental law and policy on national environmental law and policy is huge. Over 300 separate measures have been created by the EC which Member States have been obliged to incorporate into their own legal systems. The Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution (RCEP) has established that 80% of environmental law in the UK derives from European law.
