ABSTRACT
The World Health Organisation and the EC Commission have instituted joint strategies to address a wide range of health issues, including:
(1) Communicable disease control, most recently Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS): the importance of communicable disease control and of health security, in particular the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, promotes effective synergies between the EU early warning and response system and the WHO global outbreak alert and response network.
