Differentiation and Choice in Water, Electricity and

ByWaste Services

The liberalization and deregulation of markets has facilitated the entry of many new provider organizations and service options in the electricity, water and waste sectors. The result is a new phenomenon in traditional utility-user relations: consumer choice. With respect to this, the most eye-catching form of differentiation is the development of various kinds of ‘green electricity’ schemes offering variable tariffs for ‘green’ and ‘normal’ electricity by traditional and newly established energy companies. Brands now on offer in The Netherlands and the UK include Natuurstroom (Nature Power) in The Netherlands and GreenPlan in the UK.
