The Indian experience in the field of IPRs, access to biological resources and benefit sharing – Atul Kaushik

Due to globalization, population growth and deforestation, biodiversity is declining at a rapid pace. Another factor in the loss of biodiversity and associated traditional knowledge (TK) is the decreased motivation among the local communities to conserve and protect them. This is happening because of changes in their lifestyles as well as misappropriation of their resources and their knowledge. Such misappropriation not only violates the rights of communities who conserve them, but also adversely affects their conservation and sustainable use.
