ABSTRACT

In this and the following chapter, we turn to a central challenge of the POLYNET study: how directly to measure flows of information, within and between the eight megacity regions (MCRs). Chapter 3 has delivered what it promised: a sophisticated analysis of such linkages, as revealed by the structures of business firms. But this remains an indirect measure, a proxy, for the flows themselves. How is it possible then to capture such flows between the MCRs, and also out to the wider world?
