ABSTRACT
To achieve environmental improvements there is an urgent need, we are told, for more innovation. As the Chief Executive of Water UK (the association representing UK water and wastewater suppliers at national and European levels) said in a speech that innovation is needed
to support policy development and to support the implementation of solutions… And of course by innovation we aren't just talking about new equipment and plant but: joined up policy formulation and development from EC directives to UK legislation; better ways of implementing UK and EC legislation and policies by regulators and operators; and better overall solutions for the environment, economy and society (Taylor, 2005).
