ABSTRACT
Epidural analgesia in labour requires a resident anaesthetist and continuous care and monitoring of the mother and fetus by a suitably trained midwife. If either is unavailable then epidural analgesia should not be instituted. Patient information about epidurals and other forms of pain relief should be available.
