In this country, the intensive development of antitumor chemotherapy as the independent scientific and medical branch began in the 1960ies. The significant contribution into development of this field was made by investigations, carried out in N.N. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics (Moscow) and supervised by N.M. Emanuel since the late 1950ies.
