ABSTRACT

A. Introduction The objective of this chapter is to provide the most comprehensive review and introduction to tensiography i.e. optical measurements on liquid drops. It is recognized that the term “tensiography” can be misleading in that it implies that surface tension plays a major part in determining the results of the measurements. Whilst this may be partly true, it is now clear that optical measurements on liquid drops have a far greater potential than mere surface tension measurement. The tensiograph instrument provides a more universal analysis of the properties of the liquid under test (hereafter LUT).
