ABSTRACT

It’s the only college in India built by the poor and only for the poor. The application of every day science and the old existing technology of the people — not identified, not recognized and not even applied — is what is reflected and internalized in the practical beliefs of the college. Along with the scientific temper of the 21st century, Mahatma Gandhi’s practical beliefs and his spirit of sacrifice still live in the lifestyle and work style of the college. It has been shown that if the learning and re-learning environment is relaxed, non-structured and informal, the poor rural men and women are capable of technological wonders.
