The misfolding of proteins into a toxic conformation and its deposition as amyloid fibrils is proposed to be at the molecular foundation of a number of neurodegenerative disorders including CreutzfeldtJacob’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD)(Table 10.1) (Dobson, 2004).
