without additional biomarkers. The first problem may be solved

by the creation of a fiber optics bundle, which on each fiber can

immobilize various bioreporters sensitive to different toxicants

[32], while the second problem may be solved in two different

ways, by creating SPR-based fiber optic biosensors or by using

bioluminescent bacteria that do not need any additional additives

and may produce light in the presence of pollutant [16]. Figure 3.2

summarizes some advantages and disadvantages of fiber optic

biosensors.
