ABSTRACT

Energy-assisted magnetic recording (EAMR) is a promising tech-

nology to extend the impressive areal density growth of rotating

magnetic data storage. Two energy-assisted recording technologies

are active areas of research: Microwave-assistedmagnetic recording

(MAMR) uses a high-frequency oscillating magnetic field to assist

the recording process, while heat-assisted magnetic recording

(HAMR) or thermally assisted magnetic recording (TAMR) uses

thermal energy to modify the magnetic recording process [1, 2].
