ABSTRACT

The European Technical Specification CEN/TS 19101: 2022, Design of fibre-polymer composite structures, published in November 2022, constitutes a milestone for the use of fibre-polymer composites in civil engineering structures. These 15 worked examples provide designers with step-by-step application examples that illustrate the practical use of the Technical Specification. Eleven examples are highly detailed, focusing at the member or connection level; and the other four are more general, focusing at the structure level.

This book provides a powerful and enlightening resource for designers and graduate students.

"Type A" Examples.  A1. ULS verifications of a balanced symmetrical laminate subjected to in-plane and out-plane loading.  A2. ULS verifications of a balanced symmetrical laminate subjected to in-plane and out-plane loading - preliminary design.  A3. ULS verifications of a simply supported fibre-polymer composite profile with double symmetric H-cross-section subjected to axial compression.  A4. ULS and SLS verifications of a simply supported fibre-polymer composite profile with double symmetric I-cross-section subjected to a uniformly distributed transverse load.  A5. ULS and SLS verifications of a simply supported composite sandwich beam with complex balsa core.  A6. ULS and SLS verifications of a simply supported fibre-polymer composite homogeneous-core sandwich panel subjected to a uniformly distributed transverse load. A7. ULS and SLS verifications of a simply supported web-core sandwich panel subjected to a uniformly distributed transverse load.  A8. ULS verification of a double-lap adhesive joint with pultruded adherends: Stress-based approach.  A9. ULS verification of a double-lap adhesive joint with pultruded adherends: Fracture mechanics’ approach.  A10. ULS verifications of simply supported fibre-polymer composite profiles with double symmetric ‘H’ and ‘I’ cross-section subjected to axial compression.  A11. ULS & SLS verifications of a simply supported fibre-polymer composite profile with double symmetric rectangular hollow (RHS) cross-section subjected to a uniformly distributed transverse load.
