ABSTRACT

This type of insurance is designed for people who hold themselves out to the public as having some type of expertise not held by the public in general. Examples include physicians, attorneys, architects, accountants, and insurance agents. A distinguishing aspect of professional liability insurance is that a claim cannot be settled by the insurance company without the insured’s consent. The reason is that the insured professional has a reputation to protect and should have some control over when to pay a claim and when to defend. (See Professional Liability Insurance).
