ABSTRACT
In this chapter I present and discuss the multiple narratives that have been derived from an analysis of the part of the women's life stories that relates to Me, Myself. This is essentially a discussion of identity - a self that is reflected on when looking back over the life course and circumstance. I suggested in Chapter 2, that we rarely think about our identity at a conscious level, except at times where either external, or internal circumstances combine to heighten our awareness of identity consciousness. The giving of a life story to an interested listener provides such an opportunity. I also argued in Chapter 4, that narrative and biography/autobiography are at the core of identity in modern life: there is a close connection between personal meaning, identity and life story.
